Prep & Decontaminate the Paint Before Mounting Hardware

Motorcycle Detailing, decontaminate the surface, wash, clay bar, paint correction, polish, and prep the surface for ceramic coating paint protection

It’s tempting to unbox a set of hard saddlebag brackets or a sissy bar mount and bolt them straight onto the frame. But skipping surface prep is one of the most common mistakes riders make.

• Clean the Hidden Contact Points: Dust, road grit, and fine sand get trapped between mounting brackets and painted fender struts. Once tightened, engine vibration turns that trapped grit into fine-grit sandpaper, chewing through your clear coat over a few hundred miles.

• Decontaminate First: Before installing any new hardware, wash the target area with a pH-neutral shampoo, then run a fine clay bar over the fender struts and frame rails to pull out embedded iron particles and road pitch.

• Seal Areas You Can’t Reach Later: Apply a durable paint sealant or ceramic coating to any surface that will be covered by brackets, saddlebags, or fairing mounts. Once those parts are torqued down, those painted areas won't see light again until you teardown the bike.
